About The SBA Loan Desk
The SBA Loan Desk operates as a high-trust credit partner for SBA brokers and intermediaries navigating the complexities of SBA deals. Founded by a veteran credit leader, we provide the technical expertise normally found on the other side of the underwriting table, which closes the gap between a loan application and a credit approval.
We specialize in structuring SBA 7(a) transactions that are built to survive scrutiny. Our promise is simple: stronger structures, faster clarity from a credit perspective, and a professional partnership dedicated to brokers who move volume.
SBA 7(a) Structuring, From the Credit Side of the Table
Having served as a former Head of Underwriting and Chief Credit Officer, I have reviewed thousands of SBA 7(a) loan files. I have sat on the credit committee, debating the nuances of add-backs, cash flow, and borrower experience. I know exactly where deals lose momentum and why seemingly strong packages are returned for rework.
The SBA Loan Desk was built for brokers and intermediaries who move volume and cannot afford to waste time on structures that won’t survive approval. We apply institutional-level credit logic to your deal summaries, identifying risks early and engineering the debt stack so it passes committee scrutiny the first time.
Institutional Credit Depth
Credit Box Navigation: Precise identification of lender-specific appetites and policy thresholds before a single document is signed.
Acquisition Engineering: Sophisticated restructuring of purchase prices, seller carry-back notes, and equity injections to meet debt coverage targets.
SOP Interpretation: Applying deep technical knowledge of SBA operating procedures to complex business transfers and franchise acquisitions.
Clarity Over Hype: Fast feedback cycles on deal summaries, providing a frank 'yes' or 'no' guidance based on committee-ready logic.
Meet Your Credit Partner
I built The SBA Loan Desk because I saw a need for speed with a fast yes or no. With over two decades of experience from the credit side of the table that includes serving as a former Head of Underwriting and Chief Credit Officer, I understand exactly what lenders need to see to say 'yes'.
My approach is simple: I don't move deals just to move them. I look at every file through a credit lens, identifying structural weaknesses early so brokers can address them before a single credit officer sees the file. For brokers who move volume, this means more approvals, fewer surprises, and a cleaner pipeline.
When you work with me, Danny Smith, you’re not just getting a lender; you’re getting a partner who has sat in the seat of the people making the final decision. My focus is on structures that stand up to the most rigorous scrutiny. Let’s clean up the structure and get your deals funded.
Danny Smith is now an SBA 7a Lender at Ready Capital specializing in hotels, gas stations/c‑stores, car washes, self‑storage, manufacturing, childcare, assisted living, and other businesses nationwide.

About Danny Smith
Credit & Structuring Strategist
I’ve spent my career on the side of lending where the decision has to be right — credit.
As the Head of Underwriting at Ready Capital, one of the nation’s top SBA 7(a) lenders, I led a team responsible for evaluating and approving SBA loan requests and served as a key credit decision-maker on SBA 7(a) transactions. My job has always been to bring clarity early: align the story, structure, and documentation up front so strong deals move quickly and avoid surprises later.
Now, as I transition into a production role, I’m bringing that same underwriting mindset directly to brokers, referral sources, and business owners with one goal: help you structure winning deals fast with a certainty that they will actually close.
Over the last 23+ years, I’ve worked across SBA 7(a), Asset-Based Lending (ABL), Syndications and Conventional Commercial Lending. At Ready Capital, I also served as Acting Chief Credit Officer and Head of Underwriting, overseeing credit and underwriting functions and helping drive material year-over-year growth in closed SBA volume while maintaining strong credit quality metrics.
What I’ve learned is simple: good deals don’t always die just because the business is bad. Sometimes they die because the story isn’t clear, the equity isn’t documented, the add-backs can’t be defended, or the structure can’t survive underwriting. That’s why my approach is built around fast, direct, actionable feedback:
If a deal works, I’ll tell you fast.
If it doesn’t, I’ll tell you just as fast or explain exactly what needs to change.
My focus is on larger SBA transactions, especially business acquisitions and real estate-backed transactions in sectors like hotels, gas stations/c-stores, car washes, assisted living facilities, self-storage, and manufacturing — industries where the structure matters as much as the rate.
Earlier in my career, I specialized in market research, predictive modeling, and analytics, and I still use that skill set today to pressure-test assumptions and spot risks before they become late-stage issues. I hold an MBA with a focus in Finance and bring a “coach + credit officer” mindset to every deal: practical guidance, clean structure, and a path to a confident close.
If you want a quick credit read before you invest time packaging a full file, send a short summary and I’ll respond with a clear direction: GO / FIX / NO
